A 2.5 mile stretch of the River Tweed is within the hotel grounds and is internationally famous for its salmon fishing, with people coming from all over the world to fish it.
It ranks among the very top salmon rivers in the world, excelling itself in 2012 with a record catch of over 20,000 salmon; the river is also noted for its sea trout and brown trout.
One of the most productive of the upper river beats, fish are usually present from September to the season's end. In a dry year, fishing may not start in earnest until October, however, in a wet summer, fresh fish can be present considerably earlier, with fish around in numbers in August. Sea trout are generally caught during the main salmon run, however the potential for the beat to produce summer sea trout at night has yet to be explored.
There are 8 named pools, some have trees on one or other side and are most obviously fished by one or other bank. We specifically ask that courtesy to anglers fishing the Horsburgh beat opposite is given where both banks are fished.
