20 April 2022

The BIG Weekend is full of fun things to do for all the family

It's not long until the popular Cairngorms Nature BIG Weekend returns to Aviemore and the surrounding area. Starting on Thursday 12th May and running until Sunday 15th May there's lots going on for all ages.

Get out into the natural environment of the Cairngorms National Park as the weather turns milder and the days are longer.

There are lots of events planned including guided walks, talks, trails, experiences, activities and challenges for people to get involved. This long weekend event brings together visitors from across Scotland and beyond and Macdonald Aviemore Resort is the perfect base to soak up all that's on.

Scroll down to view just a selection of some of the great activities and events near us.

Guided Day with Speyside Wildlife

The Cairngorms is home to some iconic wildlife species but finding them can be tricky. To help you spot them you can join a guided day out with Speyside Wildlife to discover a wide range of Highland wildlife or elusive species of birds. Their expert knowledge will let you find the best locations to spot them and learn all about the species.

From Ptarmigan on the high tops, Capercaillie in the forests, or maybe even Otter on the shoreline you'll have an incredible time. The event is on Friday 13th May.

Sunrise Forest Bathing

The arrival of spring brings us stunning sunrises which meet beautifully with the unspoilt lochs in the Cairngorms National Park.

Have a go at forest bathing where you will immerse yourself in nature and enjoy a calmness while surrounded by the tranquil loch and forest. This event is at the beautiful Loch Vaa just a short drive from Macdonald Aviemore Resort.

This event starts early on Saturday 14th May but well worth it and is sure to awaken your senses.
