Winter really is a magical time to come and visit Aviemore and the Cairngorms. We've hand picked the top 20 things to do this Winter on our doorstep; from watching a sled-dog rally to enjoying exhilarating snowsports.
1. Watch a Sled-dog rally
Every year since 1984, the biggest event in the British sled dog racing calendar comes to Aviemore. Watch The Siberian Husky Club of Great Britain on 25 and 26 January 2020.
2. Ski or snowboard
The ski season has kicked off here in the Cairngorms. With snow being made when mother nature doesn't provide it, it's going to be a great season!
3. Spoil a loved one this Valentine's

4. Get up close with reindeer
Visit Aviemore in winter really is a magical experience, with Britain's only free-roaming reindeer herd. Get up close and even hand feed them.
5. Visit polar bears
Head to Highland Wildlife Park and get closer than ever to all kinds of incredible animals including: polar bears, tigers and snow leopards.
6. Take in an amazing view
Head to Loch Morlich or Loch an Eilein for some seriously stunning winter landscapes. Don't forget your camera.
7. Unique shopping experience
If you're looking for outdoor or snowsports clothing, Aviemore is the place to find it all. You can visit Spey Valley Shopping, the largest department store in Aviemore with designer brands for the family and home. Plus there's also shops on the high street that you won't see anywhere else.
8. Sleep in a tree tent
Sounds pretty cool doesn't it? You'll be suspended above the ground surrounded by a forest with a cosy log burner to keep you snug.
9. Visit a gin distillery
Visit the popular Caorunn Gin Distillery for a tour and taste (naturally). You'll find a range of Scottish gins on sale in Spey Valley Shopping at Macdonald Aviemore Resort.
10. Experience a toddler break

11. Visit Landmark Theme Park
The big rides might be closed but there's still loads open especially for toddlers (with reduced prices too). Visit the Butterfly House, Dinosaur Kingdom and lots more.
12. Go sledging
In winter our resort grounds turns into a perfect spot for sledging. Or go to the Hayfield (towards the Cairngorm Mountain) which is a popular spot too.
13. Try clay target shooting
Nearby at Rothiemurchus you can try this popular activity throughout winter. It's great fun and in breathtaking scenery too!
14. Whisky and chocolate experience
Sample 6 classic single malt whiskies paired with specially selected luxury highland chocolates. You'll receive a whisky glass and a tasting gift to cap off the tour. Book ahead and check the weather.
15. Take a winter hill walking course
This course is ideal as a “taster day”, allowing you to experience what being out in the winter mountain environment is all about. It's run on 4th January, 1st February and 29th February 2020.
16. Build a snowman
Get the family out for some winter fun in Aviemore. Enjoy building a snowman in our resort grounds or making snow angels.

Visit Cairngorm Brewery in Aviemore, who offer a great choice of craft beers from the Highlands of Scotland. Take a tour and sample the beer.

Explore our forests and lochs by bike this winter, for a truly breathtaking experience. You can hire bikes in our resort grounds if you don't want to bring them with you.
20. Explore Rothiemurchus by Land Rover
Driven and guided by a friendly Rothiemurchus Ranger you will visit Highland cattle at the Dell Farm, marvel at the splendour of the ancient Caledonian Pine Forest, be captivated by the tranquility of Loch an Eilein, and blown away by the mountain views at Tullochgrue.
