Pub In The Park
Calling all foodies and music lovers! If you’re looking for a last-minute reason to visit Bath this weekend, then Pub in the Park with Tom Kerridge and friends is it.
Beginning on midsummer’s eve, the longest night of the year will see in a glorious three-day feast of music, fun and food at Bath’s Royal Victoria Park. Some of Britain’s top chefs will take us on a culinary journey, from Angela Hartnett’s sophisticated Italian-inspired cooking, to Daniel Clifford’s modern British cooking underpinned by an unmistakably French style, then turning East to Ping Coombes’ Asian flavours. They are joined by talented local chefs who draw inspiration from an abundance of fresh Somerset ingredients and regional artisan producers.
Locals in the know will tell you where the best gastropubs are to be found in Bath and surround, but at Pub in the Park, they’re all gathered in one place and serving up their most delicious dishes in bite-sized pop-up versions of themselves.
For the wine connoisseurs out there, this midsummer weekend is the perfect time to celebrate the work of the terroir, the sun and the producers who harness them, with the array of unique wines on offer at the festival. Fans of gin and botanicals are well served too, as are craft beer drinkers interested in discovering new tasting notes from across the UK. And if you’re on driving duty or simply not drinking alcohol, but still want a grown-up beverage that isn’t packed with sugar, there’s plenty to love and discover at the Out-There Artisan bar.
All this and a line-up of cracking chart-topping music. Gabrielle remains pure, seductive and gloriously unique and possesses one of the most compelling, natural voices in British pop history. Catch her on Friday night alongside a DJ set of Basement Jaxx and Rob Green’s crystal-clear vocals and upbeat live performance. Saturday night it’s Texas who bring a set bursting with great songs diversely influenced by Northern Soul Disco, the Bee-Gees, Orange Juice and Altered Images. Catch Ward Thomas and Broken Bones Matilda too on the Saturday night, or groove to the Soul II Soul Soundsystem in the sunshine (we’ve ordered it!) on Saturday afternoon. On Sunday the Bluetones, Will Young, the Cuban Brothers and Dodgy will help you extend the weekend ‘til late.
So dust off your dancing shoes, sample the best food and drink on offer in the UK and watch the sun go down on the longest night, then sink into your pillows ready to get up and do it all again the next day. Bath Spa hotel is a leisurely 30 minute stroll through the loveliest parts of the Georgian city to Pub in the Park, or a ten minute taxi ride away. Set in beautiful landscaped gardens and with a luxurious spa, it’s the perfect way to enjoy a weekend of food, wine and song.
As the locals (and Tom Kerridge) would say, "lush"!
