Discover Bath: What’s on in January
It’s not quite the end of the festive season yet. Although Christmas is behind us, there’s still much to celebrate and enjoy in Bath. During this winter month, you’ll find plenty of imaginative community events designed to put a smile on your face whatever the weather. Don’t stay indoors, wrap up warm and venture out to discover what this fantastic city has to offer.
Bath Ocean Plastic Day: 13th January
High profile figures such as David Attenborough have really raised awareness of plastic pollution. This event, to include speakers from City to Sea, Wessex Water and the University of Bath will be headlined by Emily Penn – Co-founder of eXXpedition Round-the-World. A skipper, ocean advocate and artist, she’ll be presenting the latest from her transglobal scientific voyages.
Art Battle Bath: 24th January
It’s painting as you’ve never seen it before. In this fun (but very serious) competition, artists have just 20 minutes to create a picture good enough for them to be crowned winner. Every move will be scrutinised by the judges, who will be watching each easel as the creative process takes place. All artwork created will be available to bid for at the end of the night via a silent auction.
Beauty and the Beast: until 12th January
It’s not too late to book tickets to see the Theatre Royal’s annual pantomime. Featuring Wendi Peters, Jon Monie and Nick Wilton, this classic tale has been re-imagined to include plenty of comic twists. As winner of the best script at The Great British Pantomime Awards 2019, this side-splitting performance won’t disappoint.
Bradford Roots Festival: 17th – 19th January
Just a short drive away in the picturesque town of Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire’s biggest winter music festival is taking place. There’s be music – from folk to jazz and bluegrass – as well as crafts, food and plenty of opportunity for dancing. Take your pick from a fantastic programme.
Eat Green with Melissa Hemsley: 23rd January
This talk by food writer and cook Melissa Hemsley is hosted by Topping & Company Booksellers – whose events are not to be missed! Book a ticket for tips on how to cook simple, affordable food which cuts back on food waste in the kitchen. Guests will gain an insight into flexitarian recipes, and how you can swap meat and fish for vegetables – depending on what takes your fancy!
