Chinese New Year in Manchester
From 24th - 26th January, the streets of Manchester come alive as the renowned Dragon Parade makes it way through the city - welcoming the Year of the Rat. This is an event you don't want to miss!
Take the short walk from Macdonald Manchester Hotel, to St. Peter's Square to watch the start of the parade at 12:30pm. The 175ft Dragon will lead the parade followed by the traditional lion, Chinese opera performers, ribbon dancers and giant buddha Dolls.
Join in with the festivities by creating your own paper rat, entering drawing competitions or simply exploring your Zodiac animals at Arndale, Central Library and at the Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art (CFCCA).
Chinatown will be illuminated by the Dragon performance from 5.30pm, 6.30pm and 7.30pm (Friday – Sunday). There will also be a special firework display on Sunday at 6.30pm in Chinatown to officially Welcome in the year of the Rat.
