Recommended Walks in the Cairngorms
Gentle walk around Loch an Eilein
This is well worth experiencing and referred to as loch of the island with its island castle ruin and beautiful landscapes. Head to nearby Rothiemurchus Estate car park to start the walk (3 miles) along a network of trails around the loch. You might even spot red squirrels and ospreys.
Walk up Cairngorm Mountain
The views at the summit are truly incredible and well worth the climb. You’ll need to be fairly fit as this walk takes around 1 ½ hours (2 miles) and is uneven in places. Head to the Cairngorm Mountain car park to start.
Circular Walk & The Green Loch
The mystical green loch is a hidden gem and well worth a visit. Take this beautiful trail amongst ancient pines leading to An Lochan Uaine (called The Green Loch). From there a detour with gentle climb leads to the Ryvoan pass. On your return soak up the great views of Loch Morlich and Cairngorm.


Off the Beaten Track
Hidden away in the pinewoods just off the A95 between Aviemore and Boat of Garten you’ll find the secluded gem of Loch Vaa. This short walk is a straightforward circuit around the loch. You’ll cover 2.25 miles and it will take around an hour. Head to Laggantrygown Cemetery car park to start the walk.
