Wroxeter (or Viroconium) was the fourth largest city in Roman Britain. Take a tour around the ruins and the 2nd century municipal baths. It began as legionary fortress and later developed into a thriving civilian city. Some substantial standing ruins are just outside the village, where there is also a small museum. Visit the replica Roman villa situated here at Wroxeter which was constructed in 2011 for the Channel 4 television program called Rome Wasn’t Built in a Day.
Add an extra dimension to your day by visiting the nearby Wroxeter Roman Vineyard which produces and sells Shropshire wine and cider!
