Marlow is set amongst the rich meadows of the river valley and the superb woodlands of the Chiltern Hills – an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. One of the loveliest spots is the idyllic Hambleden Valley on the outskirts of Marlow, approached via West Street in the direction of Henley-on-Thames. The picture postcard village of Hambleden has been much used for film and TV locations ranging from “101 Dalmatians” and “Band of Brothers” to “North and South” by Mrs Gaskell. Nearby Turville is equally pretty and equally familiar as its St Mary the Virgin church features in “The Vicar of Dibley”. “Good Night Mr Tom” was also filmed here, along with many episodes of “Midsomer Murders”, whilst the windmill, which looks down on the village, had its star moment in “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”. Visitors can also look in on the Chiltern Valley Winery near Hambleden for home produced wines and farm brewed, full mash real ales.
