Civil Marriages

The Macdonald Swan Hotel has been approved by Cumbria County Council for the solemnisation of marriages.

The approved rooms are:

• The Green Lounge
• The Cygnet Lounge
• The Waggoner's restaurant

Once you have decided on a date for your wedding, and we have the availability, you then need to contact the Superintendent registrar:

Mrs Oliver advises you regarding availability and the arrangements to be made for the marriage to take place on our premises.

She will also inform you of the fee for the attendance of registration staff, which is payable directly to the Superintendent Registrar on the day. Only civil non-religious ceremonies are permitted by the Superintendent Registrar and this means that any music, reading or words of performance which form part of the ceremony must be agreed in advance with the Superintendent registrar who will be attending the ceremony.
