Sandy Lyle

A double major championship winner will be playing golf with amateur players at a leading Shropshire venue. Sandy Lyle will be driving off with each team on the first tee of the Macdonald Hill Valley Hotel, Golf and Spa on Tuesday, June 10, at this year’s charity golf day. All the money raised from the event will be given to Macmillan Cancer Support and the neonatal unit at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

The teams of four will be given bacon rolls and coffee on arrival at the Macdonald Hill Valley Hotel, Golf and Spa in Tarporley Road, Whitchurch, before the 18-hole competition gets underway. The day will include a BBQ and a three-course presentation dinner in the Shropshire Suite when the total amount raised will be announced.

Robert Elliot, Golf Sales Manager of Macdonald Hotels, said Sandy was the group’s golf ambassador and he was delighted he was able to take part in the charity day. “Sandy will be with us throughout the day and will drive off with each team as they pass through the first tee,” he said. “It will be a fantastic opportunity to tee off with a double major championship winner! “Sandy won The Open Championship in 1985 and The Masters three years later so his advice is certainly worth listening to. He proved recently that he hasn’t lost his touch as he made the cut in what was a very tough Masters tournament. “We are hoping to attract 22 teams to boost the funds of two local charities that are renowned for making a real difference.” Any teams interested in entering the Sandy Lyle Golf Day should contact general manager Iain Gray on 0844 879 9049 or email robert.elliot@macdonald-hotels.co.uk
