A WHEELY GOOD TURN FOR CHARITY
Watcyn Lewis, Fitness Instructor at Macdonald Elmers Court is one pedal closer to raising £3,000 for a local charity this week after Macdonald Hotel’s Deputy Chief Executive David Guile made a £750 donation.
With a keen interest in getting on his bike to do good things for others, Watcyn decided to join a group of like-minded enthusiasts to undertake the formidable 12 day cycle from Lands End to John O’Groats in aid of Oakhaven Hospice.
A distance of over 1,040 miles, Watcyn will take up the challenge on 6th May, but until then he has to not only ensure he maintains his already high level of fitness but also raises the much needed cash.
Watcyn said, As well as keeping fit in my role, I have also been doing my best to put in a few extra hours on the bike through the week, as I dare not underestimate how tough this challenge will be. Everyone at the Macdonald Hotel group has been really supportive – not only have they made this tremendous donation, but the hotel is giving me the time off to complete the charity cycle. I would also like to thank all the Vital club members who have sponsored me to date.
Established in 1992, Oakhaven Hospice provides specialist palliative care and support to those facing life-limiting illness and their loved ones. As well as offering free support to over 120 people in the hospice setting, its community team also makes over 2,500 home visits each year. The Day Hospice is also a well used facility, appreciated by patients and their carers, with more than 1,000 attendances by patients annually.
