Sandy Lyle returned to his sporting roots to boost two Shropshire charities.
The double major championship winner led a charity golf day at the Macdonald Hill Valley Hotel, Golf and Spa in Whitchurch.
Lyle, who won the British Open 23 years ago, grew up just a few miles from the Hill Valley course and used to practice there with young county rival Ian Woosnam before they both went on to be world stars in the sport.
Lyle helped each team on their way and them followed them round giving tips as they bid to raise money for the Macmillan Cancer Support and the neonatal unit at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
Robert Elliot, Golf Sales Manager of Macdonald Hotels, said Sandy had revelled in the day.
"We could not have asked for more. The newly completed hotel and spa is looking great, the course was bathed in sunlight and we had one of the county's most famous sons back enjoying golf here just as he did as a teenager.
"I think it was a day to remember for all those who took part. It is not often that you can rub shoulders with an all time great sportsman."
The day included a BBQ and a three-course presentation dinner in the Shropshire Suite and raised approximately £2,000.
