Following his appointment as head chef at Macdonald Houstoun House, near Edinburgh, John Paul McLachlan has introduced a new Scottish Bar Bites selection to the Vaulted Bar menu.
The new tapas style menu celebrates the best of healthy and delicious Scottish food. Diners can choose from individual bowls for £4 or three different servings as a share plate at £9.50. The menu includes shallow fried "McSweens" haggis in filo pastry, roasted venison sausage coated in marmalade and chilli or Scottish "Gruhdu" cheese and sundried tomato balls.
The Scottish Bar Bites menu is the perfect choice as a light snack to accompany a drink or as a wholesome and satisfying lunch.
At only 34, John Paul joined Houstoun House as head chef following his time at London's trendy Albannach bar and restaurant having previously worked for world-famous chefs including Gordon Ramsay and Raymond Blanc.
At Albannach John Paul created the world's most expensive haggis in 2005 to celebrate Burns Night. Worth £2,500 the haggis was infused with the Buccleuch Estate, the 50 year old Balvenie Cask 191 single malt, which sells for £6,000 a bottle.
John Paul said: "The new Scottish Bar Bites menu boasts the best of Scottish produce and is already proving popular with guests.
"Working with Macdonald Hotels is extremely enjoyable and it's great to be working for a hotel group that focuses so heavily on the quality and provenance of its food and drink."
