Old Swan Hotel joins Macdonald Hotels

16th January 2006

A leading hotel in Harrogate has joined the UK's largest privately-owned hotel group as its £5 million refurbishment is set to be completed.

The Old Swan Hotel, on Swan Road, is to be overseen by Macdonald Hotels and Resorts.

Operating more than 40 hotels across the UK, Macdonald Hotels and Resorts controls a business with an annual turnover of around £250 million.

Paul Gill, the General Manager at Old Swan Hotel, said it was great news to become part of one of the most prestigious hotel chains in the UK:

"Macdonald Hotels and Resorts is highly respected in the industry and have a portfolio of luxury properties throughout England and Scotland."

"Thanks to the £5 million refurbishment, Old Swan Hotel is being brought up to a similar standard."

"All of our 136 bedrooms and bathrooms have been refurbished - and they look fantastic."

"The project has also seen five of our conference suites, Library Restaurant, the Wedgwood Room and public areas transformed and the indoor Garden Room and Ballroom rebuilt."

"The work has already made a big difference to the whole feel of the hotel and we have already introduced the Macdonald standards to our conference and banqueting guests."

"The group has some extremely fine hotels in its portfolio such as the five-star The Macdonald Bath Spa and The Macdonald Aviemore Highland Resort in Scotland."

"We have always enjoyed a good reputation in Harrogate but we want to expand our market nationally and internationally and joining the Macdonald group should help us to achieve that."

"The £5 million project is due to be completed next month. (February)"
