Macdonald Old England Hotel wins at Cumbrian Tourism Awards

14 May 2008

Staff at the Macdonald Old England Hotel & Spa in Bowness on Windermere were celebrating last night (13 May) after winning two accolades at the 2008 Cumbria Tourism Awards.

The hotel won the award for Large Hotel of the Year and also scooped the Lady Inglewood Award for Innovative People Management for its staff training programme.

Speaking about the success, Kay Harrison-Mann, regional general manager of Macdonald Hotels in the Lakes, said: "We're absolutely thrilled to win these awards. These prizes recognise the significant achievements we have made over the last year and the hard work of everyone at the hotel.

"We have spent £10 million transforming Old England into one of the leading spa hotels in the north of the country and our fine dining restaurant, Vinand, was recently awarded two AA rosettes.

"However, that investment also relies upon our award-winning staff training programme that has underpinned the high standards of service which our guests have come to expect."

The Cumbria Tourism Awards ceremony took place at the Castle Green Hotel, Kendal and recognises excellence in both business and individuals.
