Luxury £1.7m Health Club and Spa

Work has started on a luxury £1.7 million Health Club & Spa at a leading hotel in Shropshire.Twelve jobs will be created when the Health Club & Spa complex opens at the Macdonald Hill Valley Hotel, Golf and Country Club in Whitchurch in January 2008.

The foundations have been dug at the building which is at the rear of the popular golf and hotel venue in Tarporley Road.

A 20-metre swimming pool is being created along with a thermal suite which will feature an aroma steam room, rock sauna and experience showers.

The club will also boast a Spa relaxation room with four spa therapy rooms where a full range of spa treatments and holistic therapies will be offered.

The state-of-the-art gymnasium will include Wellness TechnoGym stations and fully qualified instructors will be available to design personal exercise programmes.

Regional Managing Director Debbie Johnson said the Spa would mark the end of the £13.5 million investment by Macdonald Hotels and Resorts.

"The venue has been completely transformed by the addition of the conference and banqueting suites, restaurant, sports bar, lounge and bedroom block," she said.

"The contractors have now started work on the final phase of the project by creating a luxury Health Club & Spa which will raise the standard of health clubs and spas in Whitchurch.

"Hill Valley has always had a fantastic reputation for its golf courses and the addition of the swimming pool, thermal suite, gym and spa treatments is certain to be popular with our guests as well as local residents.

"The Spa will be open to local residents, people staying at the hotel for a conference, overnight stay or on a golfing break and our golf members.

"I am sure it will be fantastic once it is completed early next year - just in time for everyone starting their New Year resolutions!"

Contractors Watkins Jones, who will be carrying out the work, also completed the £11.8 million development at the Macdonald Portal Hotel, Golf and Spa which opened in June.
