Chester Charity Golf
Chester Cathedral is holding its first charity golf day at a leading Shropshire hotel to raise much-needed funds for its running costs.
Around £60,000 is needed every week to maintain the Grade I listed building which attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.
The Macdonald Hill Valley Hotel, Golf and Country Club in Tarporley Road, Whitchurch, is hosting the Chester Cathedral Charity Golf Day on Friday, September 21.
Teams of four are needed to enter the stableford competition which will tee off from 10am on the championship Emerald course.
Tony Minshall, director of Macdonald Hill Valley Hotel, Golf and Country Club, is also urging businesses to sponsor a tee or green.
"Chester Cathedral is open every day for people from different nationalities and races as a place of peace and comfort regardless of their religion," he said.
"It costs in the region of £60,000 per week to run Chester Cathedral and this beautiful building relies on donations to keep it going," he said.
"The initial response to the charity day has been good but we would like as many teams as possible to enter.
"There will be plenty of prizes available and this competition is open to men and women.
"If anyone is unable to join us on the day then we have sponsorship packages available from £60 to sponsor a tee or green which is great value for local businesses.
"I hope as many golfers as possible will come along to join us and help maintain our great heritage."
The winner will be the golfer who has the best two stableford scores and there will be prizes from first to fifth place along with a nearest the pin and longest drive competition.
It costs £90 for non members and £45 for members to enter the Chester Cathedral Charity Golf Day.
