A luxury £3 million Cheshire health club and spa has attracted the highest number of members pre-opening within a nationwide hotel group.

The stunning Spa at the Macdonald Portal Hotel, Golf and Spa in Cobbler’s Cross Lane, Tarporley, had signed up 810 members before the doors had opened – a record within Macdonald Hotels and Resorts.

And after attracting more than 100 further members following its opening, there is soon expected to be a waiting list.

Leisure club manager Jason O’Neill said the success was due to the hard work of the sales team headed by leisure sales manager Mark Davies.

There are more than 20 spa, health and beauty clubs within the Macdonald Hotels group and to have achieved the highest number of members pre-opening is superb,” Jason said. “We opened the Spa with 810 members and we have now reached 923.

It is due to the hard work of our staff in particular Mark Davies and the beautiful facility that we have.

This area has required a luxury health club and spa such as this for a long time and we have provided that.

The glass roof overlooking the pool means swimmers can look at the rolling countryside while they complete their laps and whether members want to get fit or pamper themselves the Spa won’t disappoint.

This is the first of a new style of leisure clubs launched by Macdonald Hotels which features a thermal suite with sauna, aroma steam bath and ice room.

There is also a state-of-the-art gym with TechnoGym equipment, an 18-metre swimming pool and eight beauty treatment rooms.

The Spa is part of an £11.8 million investment by Macdonald Hotels & Resorts and Arderne Plc which has led to the creation of 85 en-suite bedrooms, a fine dining restaurant, lounge, cocktail bars and conference and meeting rooms.

The golf clubhouse has been refurbished and a luxurious private members’ bar and restaurant have also been built overlooking the venue.
