Hill Valley Fundraiser

7th July 2008

Leisure staff at a leading Shropshire hotel will be getting on their bike to raise money for a charity in the region.

A dozen members of staff in the leisure club and spa at the Macdonald Hill Valley Hotel, Golf and Spa will be cycling the distance of the A49 - a total of 140 miles - on Thursday, July 17.

The sponsored bike ride will start early at 6.30am and is due to be finished before 9pm to boost the funds of the Shrewsbury branch of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Michelle Barnsby, Spa manager at the hotel in Tarporley Road, Whitchurch, said they hoped to raise at least £300.

"Each member of staff from the leisure club will take it in turns to cycle on the bikes inside the gym to ride a total of 140 miles," she said.

"The A49 is the key link from Whitchurch to Shrewsbury where Macmillan Cancer Support are based in the town so we thought it was appropriate to cycle the length of the road and we expect it to take staff the majority of the day to reach the target.

"We will be encouraging our members to make a donation to Macmillan Cancer Support which I'm sure will make everyone pedal harder!

"To raise further funds for the Shrewsbury branch of the local charity, we will be offering everyone who attends the Spa on July 17 the chance to treat themselves to an Indian head massage, mini facial or file and polish.

"After the treatments, each guest will receive a free Decleor goody bag and a voucher for 25 per cent off their next treatment.

"We will open the Spa from 9am until 8pm to give everyone as much time as possible to take advantage of this special day and non-members are welcome as well as our members."
