Min Jiang London: A taste of China in Kensington
6th May 2008
This summer, the Royal Garden Hotel (2-24 Kensington High Street, London W8 4PT) welcomes the launch of Min Jiang, a new Chinese restaurant on the tenth floor of the hotel, offering spectacular views of Kensington Gardens.
Following the achievement of two very successful Min Jiang restaurants in Singapore (at the Goodwood Park Hotel and at Min Jiang One North at Rochester Park) this will be the company's first London venture and like its siblings will focus on cuisine from various Chinese provinces.
The highlight of Min Jiang London will be the Beijing duck, a speciality that the restaurants in Singapore have dedicated much time and research in perfecting; as a result they are proud to be show casing this illustrious speciality at Min Jiang London.
Cooked in a wood fired oven, the duck requires the expertise of a master chef to ensure its successful execution. In doing so the dish is served in various different services; including a touch of food theatre that brings this course to life through the duck being sliced at your table before being wrapped in pancakes with a choice of accompaniments.
The second service involves six different dishes which use the remainder of the duck meat and include spiced minced duck with lettuce wrap and stir fried shredded duck with ginger and spring onion. In addition Min Jiang will also offer a selection of Dim Sum which like the Beijing duck will demand a team of specialist chefs in order to ensure the best possible eating experience. Other favourites such as hot and sour soup and sautéed king prawns with dried chilli will also feature on the menu. A wide selection of teas will also be available.
The restaurant will enjoy spectacular views over Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park which will effectively contrast with the contemporary Chinese interior. Here walls in a strong Chinese red will accommodate mirrors which will be back lit and glass etched with Chinese characters. In addition, a selection of photography portraying the many faces of China will feature. Traditional blue and white vases and pots will be displayed on striking modular shelves throughout the restaurant.
As well as the restaurant Min Jiang will also include an adjoining bar, private dining room for up to 20 people as well as wine rooms which will be subtly integrated into the main dining room. Intent on offering both a genuine and sophisticated Chinese experience and set against an enviable London back drop, Min Jiang looks set to become one of London's hottest new restaurants.
The Royal Garden Hotel entered into a strategic partnership with AA Hotel Group of the Year, Macdonald Hotels & Resorts in March 2008.
The move builds on a strong synergy between both companies in terms of investment and focus on brand, high quality and consistent customer service, facilities, training and food provenance and sourcing within its restaurants. Crucially, like Macdonald Hotels, the Royal Garden is a privately owned business run by dedicated and passionate hoteliers.
