Charity golf day at a leading Shropshire hotel

Chester Cathedral has raised much-needed funds for its running costs after holding its first charity golf day at a leading Shropshire hotel.

Chester Cathedral has raised much-needed funds for its running costs after holding its first charity golf day at a leading Shropshire hotel.

More than £1,400 was raised at the event at The Macdonald Hill Valley Hotel, Golf and Country Club in Tarporley Road, Whitchurch.

Around 20 teams of four entered the stableford competition which took place on the championship Emerald course.

The cash was raised from entry fees, corporate sponsorship and a raffle.

The winning team was lead by Kevin and Bradley Read from Read Properties in Warrington with a score of 92 points.

Runners up were a team from Collins and Darwell printers based in Leigh, captained by Mike Travers who also won the nearest the pin competition.

Tony Minshall, director of Macdonald Hill Valley Hotel, Golf and Country Club, said he was pleased so many golfers turned up to support the event.

The Cathedral needs £60,000 to maintain the Grade I listed building which attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year,” he said.

It is open every day for people from different nationalities and races as a place of peace and comfort regardless of their religion.

The golf day was very successful and enjoyable with teams from across the region coming together to support this worthy cause.
