
MACDONALD OLD ENGLAND LOOKS SET TO BE THE JEWEL IN THE CROWN OF LAKE WINDERMERE
The Macdonald Old England Hotel in Bowness-on-Winderemere, which is nearing the final stages of its £8.25million pound refurbishment programme, is proud to announce the appointment new hotel manager, Andrew McKay, who will be working closely alongside regional general manager for the Lakes, Kay Harrison-Mann.
The refurbishment is the largest investment the company has made to an existing property to date and emphasises the Group’s commitment to developing its strong portfolio of four and five star hotels.
Fifty six existing bedrooms at the Macdonald Old England have already been completely refurbished giving them a contemporary and luxurious look. All of the hotel’s public areas, including the lounge bar and restaurant, have also been overhauled using stylish and sumptuous furnishings to create warm and welcoming areas for guests to relax and enjoy the unrivalled views of Lake Windermere.
Hotel Manager, Andrew McKay, who has over 22 years experience in the hospitality industry, commented on the refurbishment: “The Macdonald Old England has always been a favourite with tourists visiting the Lakes and our refurbishment will undoubtedly position the hotel as one of the most luxurious and spectacular in the area,” he said.
“Our commitment to providing five star service and the highest quality food creates the perfect combination, and once completed, the new additions such as the fabulous thermal spa will really set us apart from our competitors.”
The hotel has also recently opened an exclusive jetty mooring for small yachts and cruise boats which provides year round rising mooring posts with natural shelter from the bay.
The hotel is now concentrating on phase two of the development which includes 49 new bedrooms and a world class spa and leisure club, which are on schedule to be completed by October 2007.
A planning application has also been submitted for a stunning conservatory extension on to the existing lake front gardens. If planning permission is granted work on this development will star in October 2007 and should be complete by January 2008. The extension will enable the hotel to maximise its stunning location all year round.
