A leading golf and conference venue has become the first hotel in Whitchurch to be awarded four stars by the AA.

The Macdonald Hill Valley Hotel, Golf and Country Club in Tarporley Road has been granted the prestigious award following a secret visit by an AA inspector.

The venue, which officially re-opened last September following a £13.5 million refurbishment and extension, was judged on its cleanliness, service, 81 en-suite bedrooms, food, hospitality, public areas and exterior appearance.

Work is now underway to create a £1.7 million Health Club & Spa which will feature a 20-metre swimming pool, a thermal suite, therapy rooms and a state-of-the-art gym when it opens in January 2008.

Debbie Johnson, Regional Managing Director, said the AA inspector assessed every area of the hotel in his impromptu visit from the time he arrived until his departure.

"When Macdonald Hotels & Resorts decided to refurbish the venue all the en-suite bedrooms, conference and meeting rooms, restaurant, lounge and public areas were built to a four-star standard," she said.

"We are delighted to have gained official recognition from the AA because it is such a highly respected organisation and every aspect of the hotel was reviewed.

"Our guests now know whether they are visiting Hill Valley for business or leisure that they are going to receive four-star standards.

"We have 90 staff who work here and most of these are local people. It has given them an enormous amount of satisfaction that the high standards that they have set have been recognised.

"It is fantastic that we have become the first four-star hotel in Whitchurch and we are determined to build on our success."
