National Training Award

In recognition of the Apprentice chef programme that allows young people to join a 2 year programme in conjunction with Motherwell College - so far over 200 chefs have been trained on the scheme.

AA hotel Group of the Year 07/08

This prestigious award recognises the work Macdonald Hotels is doing to consolidate its position in the four, four red and five star market, and acknowledges the quality, service and range of facilities at each Macdonald property.

Stairway to Success Training Programme

An important company value for Macdonald Hotels & Resorts is that 'Everyone has the opportunity to learn and develop". We have a development programme for all our Heads of Department that gives them the tools to successfully manage their teams of people. The training calendar, called 'Stairways to Success', is an in house scheme that covers the follow:

• Appraisal training
• Recruitment training, and
• 'Commitment to Excellence' - our Company Customer Service training.

So far 450 people have been through this programme which is now being developed further to cover all levels of staff.

Graduate programme

Over the last 2 years, 22 graduates have been on our 18 month graduate training programme covering all departments in catering and rooms. Macdonald Hotels & Resorts has seen some real success with many graduates going on to take up Head of Department positions in the hotels.

Institute of Leadership Management Course

Macdonald Hotels & Resorts have 10 General Managers and Operations managers currently partaking on an external ILM diploma course. This is a 12 month programme in which all participants will hope to graduate from in June 2008.

Macdonald Hotels & Resorts Staff Survey 2007

The 2007 Macdonald Hotels & Resorts employee survey had a 90% completion rate for employees, and 97% completion rate for General Managers. Key highlights:

• 86% of employees are proud to work for their hotel
• 81% would recommend a friend to work for Macdonald hotels & Resorts
• 83% said their manager generates commitment and loyalty
• 70% believe they can develop a long term career with the company
