The largest natural lake in England, with stunning vistas and 18
islands, was another to catch the eye of poet and Lakes' lover
William Wordsworth. Stay in our hotel in Bowness-on-Windermere and
his words will ring true. 'None of the other Lakes unfold so many
fresh beauties.'
Take a steamer or launch trip on the water for a gentle
introduction to its charms. Down at the southern end of Windermere,
you can connect with a steam train that'll take you through the
lake and river scenery of the Leven Valley. The Aquarium of the
Lakes opens up the depths of the lake and introduces its trout,
pike, elusive charr and even otters.
Every year, all eyes turn upwards when the flying machines of
the Windermere Air Festival put on awe-inspiring displays over the
water. Kids will also be enthralled by the tall tales and friendly
creatures of the World of Beatrix Potter visitor attraction.
