This is the much-celebrated home of poet William Wordsworth. In
fact, he actually mentioned our hotel in Grasmere in one of his
poems. Here, in the very heart of the Lake District National Park,
the natural surroundings are, according to him, 'the loveliest spot
that man hathe ever found'.
Close to the craggy peaks of Scafell Pikes, Helvellyn, Skiddaw
and the Langdale Pikes, Grasmere is a charming village where you
can visit Wordworth's two homes, row on the lake or take a gentle
walk along its shores. Events like the Rushbearing Festival and
Grasmere Sports day bring ancient traditions to life.
Another tradition is the delicious spicy gingerbread that was so
loved by Victorian travelers. It's still sold here and all over the
world. When you've eaten your fill, drop in on Heaton Cooper
Studios. Over decades they have created stunning watercolours and
sculptures inspired by the Lakes. For lovers of the world of
Beatrix Potter, there are attractions to capture the imagination
too.
