They call it 'Scotland's Heart' and you'll quickly see why
Stirling deserves that description. Its history puts it right at
the centre of Scotland's story. Stirling Castle's the best place to
begin, with its tales of kings, queens, sieges, back stabbing and
glory. Home of the Stuart Kings and Mary Queen of Scots, it's not
to be missed.
Close to the castle is the site of Bannockburn, Scotland's most
celebrated battle. The heritage centre tells its story. Then you
can go on to meet the real Braveheart at the National Wallace
Monument. There's even more history in Stirling Old Town Jail, a
taste of the grim life behind bars in a 19th century
prison.
Rather more refined is the Chuch of the Holy Rude where the very
young James VI was crowned in 1567. A wilder day out, the nearby
Blair Drummond Safari Park is hugely entertaining, with a cast of
lemurs, giraffes, zebras and elephants, amongst other
attractions.
