Founded by the Romans as a crossing place over the River Mersey,
Warrington's history includes battles of the English Civil War, the
industrial revolution and the UK's first Ikea! Stay at one of our
hotels nearby and you can enjoy the fascinating town that history
has produced. There are unique local customs and festivals like
Warrington Walking Day, the Bawning of the Thorn and Welly
Wanging.
Rugby league is very much a tradition here, with the Warrington
Wolves the local heroes. After the game, have a pint at the Barley
Mow, the oldest pub in town, dating back to 1561. The very popular
Warrington Rowing Regatta goes back a few years too, 150 to be
precise.
Today's family entertainment happens at Gulliver's World Resort,
a theme park with 50 fun-filled rides and attractions. Or you can
fit in a spot of riding, cycling, angling, walking or bird watching
in the gorgeous natural surrounds of the Lymm Dam Nature
Reserve.
