Stay with us in England's newest city and our hotel in Preston
puts you at the heart of Lancashire. Not surprisingly, the Museum
of Lancashire is here, now refurbished, with seven interactive
galleries. Preston's certainly a city where country escapes are
never far away. Since 2/3's of it is rural, you can treat the kids
to an outdoor treasure hunt, follow a sculpture trail or enjoy a
traditional Lancashire lunch with local ales and renowned farmhouse
cheeses.
The Ribble Steam Railway is another fine attraction, now with a
new museum, workshops and plenty of beautifully restored
locomotives. Preston received its Royal Charter in 1179, and that's
the origin of the famous Preston Guild celebrations that happen
every 20 years. (The next one's in 2012.)
Football's traditions are celebrated and illustrated at the
National Football Museum, found at the home of Preston North End.
It's full of famous memories and stirring stories from the world's
greatest game.
