Welcome to Macdonald Old England Hotel & Spa, set on the
shores of Lake Windermere in the heart of the stunning Lake
The Old England started life as a Georgian residence until the
first inn keeper, Thomas Ullock, opened the hotel in 1745.
Since then we estimate the hotel has welcomed over three
million guests through its doors.
I was proud to join the hotel and the Macdonald Hotel Group in
2011. Following my studies at College and University, I have
worked in numerous hotels around the country, from my beginnings as
a chef to hotel manager. After 20 years in the hospitality
industry it is a privilege to be able to work in such a prestigious
hotel in the most beautiful of locations.
I am fortunate enough to have the support of a talented and
dedicated team of over 100 people who help bring this grand hotel
to life each and every day. They share a passion and
affections for the hotel like so many of our returning guests and
are always on hand to make your stay even more enjoyable.
It is now over 250 years since we first opened our doors, whilst
the world may have changed, the reason for so many of our guests
choosing to visit the beautiful town of Bowness-on-Windermere
remains the same as it did in 1745.
We look forward to sharing this with you soon.
