Set in the lyrical countryside so typical of an English rural
scene, this 900-year-old Cotswold town is probably most famous for
being the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill at Blenheim Palace.
(Churchill's grave is to be found in Bladon, nearby.) One of the
finest baroque houses in the country, the Palace is well worth a
tour. For added atmosphere and entertainment, this is sometimes led
by a ghostly guide. Events like horse trials and craft fairs make
the most of the surrounding acres of parkland.
