Spa treatments near Stirling

Christie Doran is finding out first-hand what it takes to be in with a chance of becoming the one of the UK's top female racing drivers.

Christie, from Falkirk, has been given free access to Macdonald Inchyra Hotel & Spa's gym to push her fitness training into top gear using a programme designed by Formula One test driver and fellow Scot Susie Wolff and handed down to Christie.

The twenty-year-old is training for the VAG Trophy which sees a typically all-male line-up of petrol heads race at tracks across the UK, starting with Oulton Park in Cheshire. In 2014, Christie was the first female to win silverware in the series when she clinched third place in her class, again at Oulton.

Strength to compete

To compete at this level it is essential that Christie stays in top physical condition. She needs a strong neck, stomach and legs so that she can withstand the g-forces created when racing at high speeds, meaning training at Macdonald Inchyra Hotel's gym is an occupational obligation. She trains five days a week on top of driving training with British GT champion Ross Wylie, her coach.

By working out Christie is looking to both keep her weight down, so that she is light enough to race, and build muscle so that her body can cope with the high speed pressures.

To build up muscle Christie focuses on core exercises and weight training, specifically targeting her arms, necks, back, shoulders, stomach and legs. Her training schedule consists of small bursts of focused cardio, as well as roughly 15 minutes cycling and ten minutes on the rowing machine.

Talking about what it takes to make it, Christie commented: "Racing is a very competitive sport, to be successful you need to be at your best. Training at the gym in Inchyra has given me the strength I need to perform as well as I can and get the best possible results."

"You need to be physically fit enough to withstand the g-forces and stay mentally alert. The state-of-the-art facilities at Inchyra help me achieve this goal and stay one step ahead of the competition. There's everything from a rowing machine, to weights and resistance machines to a full length pool and spa area I can use to cool down or relax after a race."

Regional General Manager Stuart Maxwell, said: "Supporting local talent is something in which we take great pride. It is great to know that we can help Christie achieve her dreams, and the team at Inchyra will definitely be keeping an eye on her career as she progresses.

"Our leisure centre benefited from a huge investment back in 2011 and it is fantastic to see it being used by professional competitors."

Macdonald Hotels & Resorts celebrates its 25th anniversary this year and operates over 45 hotels across the UK and ten resorts in both the UK and Spain.
