Another great eatery for the four-star hotel

Macdonald Portal Hotel, Golf & Spa in Cheshire will very shortly celebrate the official opening of its new Scottish Steakhouse concept restaurant, complete with innovative, new head chef, Darren Clarke.

At Scottish Steakhouse the emphasis is always on taste and quality and Macdonald Portal Hotel, Golf & Spa is dedicated to serving only the highest quality food, using the finest seasonal ingredients and the best produce available. The luxurious and elegant four star hotel near Chester, which is set in beautiful countryside amidst rolling hills, will offer fresh new flavours on the menu along with twists on classic favourites.

When the new Scottish Steakhouse launches on 17th November, guests will be able to enjoy steaks including fillet and ribeye which, staying true to Macdonald's Scottish heritage, are sourced from fully accredited Scottish farms. Beef served will be aged for a minimum of 21 days on the bone and hand cut by highly skilled butchers before being cooked in a signature grill, which uses natural coals to add flavour. Also on offer will be regionally sourced lamb, outdoor reared pork and the finest wild white fish, caught from sustainable sources around the UK and delivered fresh every day.

To whet the appetite, the starter menu will include seared scallops, squid tempura and Scottish favourite, haggis, neeps and tatties. Sides will range from indulgent hand cut chips, to three cheese macaroni and roasted winter root vegetables, as well as breads served with blue cheese dip, balsamic vinegar and extra virgin olive oil.

Desserts to tempt those with a sweet tooth will include traditional Scottish cranachan, dark chocolate and pistachio fondant and a tangerine posset. The new restaurant, which will seat 120, will open seven days a week serving lunch and dinner with a choice of a la carte and fixed price menus with main courses from £12.95 to £26.95.

The eatery is headed by top chef Darren Clarke, from the Wirral, who has more than 23 years' experience producing high-end menus at a range of award winning restaurants. He said: "I am passionate about food and about using the best of local produce so the Macdonald Portal Hotel Golf & Spa is the perfect fit.

"Diners can expect nothing but the best from the new Scottish Steakhouse and we are looking forward to welcoming all the foodies from Cheshire and further afield to enjoy this new dining experience.

"My aim is to make the Scottish Steakhouse the best restaurant in the area and I have my sights firmly set on gaining recognition and awards for this stunning location."
