Eat & Drink in Windermere

Three luxury Lake District hotels have created a limited-edition cocktail to celebrate William Wordsworth's 245th birthday.

The Poet's Tipple, inspired by the Romantic poets of the late 18th and 19th centuries, combines Bedrock gin local to the Lake District, house infused Elderflower Soda, fresh mint and crushed fresh pineapple, giving the beverage a yellow hue to encapsulate Wordsworth's 'Daffodils' poem in a glass.

Guests will be able to try the exclusive cocktail at Macdonald Swan Hotel, Macdonald Old England Hotel & Spa and Macdonald Leeming House, William Wordsworth's birthday. It is part of Macdonald Hotels & Resorts' 'Cocktail Culture' initiative, creating cocktails inspired by local icons.

With each hotel set in the most romantic Lake District locations, guests can sample the quirky addition to the hotels' distinguished menu whilst taking in the majestic views of the landscape.

Edward Cross, Regional Managing Director, said: "Visitors come to us for our unique cultural and poetic history, romantic setting and of course our quality cocktail and bar menus. We wanted to combine all three and create a cocktail that honoured William Wordsworth, who often visited the Lake District for poetic inspiration.

"Unusual cocktails have grown in popularity in recent years, as cocktail connoisseurs across the world have been inspired by locality. We are immensely proud of our reputation in the Lake District for not only offering wonderful views of the area, but the very best food and drink for our guests."

Macdonald Hotels & Resorts has invested just under £1million in extensive bedroom refurbishments at Macdonald Leeming House and Macdonald Old England Hotel & Spa, which also included improvements to The Terrace Lounge & Cocktail Bar. The investment is part of an ongoing programme across the group to improve the guest experience.
