Emma Driver Won a Place on a Training Scheme

19 year old Emma Driver, from Earlstone in the Borders, has won a coveted place on a training scheme provided by Macdonald Hotels & Resorts, the UK's largest independently owned hotel group.  Emma is one of only two students who beat off stiff competition to win the place based at the four star Macdonald Cardrona Hotel, Golf & Spa by Peebles.

Emma, a 2nd year undergraduate (BA Honours in Hospitality and Tourism Management) at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh, is now on a 9 month placement at the 99 bedroom hotel.  She is joined by Lauren Henderson, a 3rd year (BA Honours Hospitality Management) undergraduate at Edinburgh Napier University. The two trainees are part of an innovative scheme developed by the group.

Emma commented: "I am so proud to be part of the Macdonald family at Macdonald Cardrona Hotel Golf & Spa.  I'm learning a great deal from experienced colleagues who give me invaluable insights into Macdonald Hotels' commitment to ensure guests enjoy a warm welcome and friendly professional service.  As part of the hotel operations family, I'm also learning about the group's commitment to always serve diners the finest freshest produce.

"There's a lot to learn and I'd love to return here one day in a senior role.  This undergraduate scheme is certainly giving me all the tools to achieve that goal."

Stuart Maxwell, general manager, Macdonald Cardrona Hotel Golf & Spa, said:  "Our trainees personify a new generation of young and talented hoteliers whose enthusiasm we aim to harness over the next 6-9 months through hands on industry experience.

"I am very impressed by their dedication to date as they learn from our hard working professional staff.  The ongoing training and development of our staff is a priority and our trainee programme is a reflection of Macdonald Hotel & Resorts commitment to excellence."

The hotel recently completed a £200,000 bedroom investment programme to further enhance the quality and comfort of stay it offers to leisure and business guests.
