With the London Marathon just around the corner, the senior sales team at Macdonald Hotels & Resorts launched a mammoth run of their very own, travelling across the country in a week long initiative.

The March Marathon saw sales teams from across the UK travelling all the way from the Scottish Highlands to the South Coast of England in just one week, visiting 270 clients along the way in major cities such as Edinburgh, York, Leeds and Birmingham.

As well as meeting agents across the country from organisations such as Capita and Bank Sadler, the teams also promoted the hotel group's new familiarisation trip model known as the Agent's Passport Scheme.

The innovative initiative ensures that agents discover the outstanding and unique offering available at Macdonald Hotels & Resorts while earning passport stamps, for the chance to win a trip to a Macdonald resort in the UK or abroad.

Amy Dixon, Head of MICE Sales at Macdonald Hotels & Resorts, said: "As the largest independently owned hotel group in the UK, Macdonald Hotels & Resorts offers a unique personable and professional service to agents that we're incredibly proud of. We wanted to start celebrating as a family as we enter our 25th year and highlight the group's influence as a key player in the business travel, meetings and conference sectors.

"Organising a fun but challenging marathon was the perfect way to bring everyone together and work as a tight-knit team, not only to show agents what we can offer, but also to celebrate everything that we have achieved."

Donning comical outfits, the runners handed out branded water bottles to agents and carried out a baton handover from the North to the South sales teams at the four-star Macdonald Burlington Hotel in central Birmingham, an important meetings and conference venue for the group.

Agents visited by the teams were also given the chance to win hotel stays by answering quizzes about Macdonald Hotels. This 'learning with fun' approach follows feedback that Macdonald Hotels & Resorts gained from key agents who wanted to learn more about the hotels they work with.

Jo Merriman, Partner Manager at Capita Travel and Events, said: "The Macdonald Hotels & Resorts March Marathon team visited our Derby office this week and the feedback received from the business was superb.

"This is such an innovative campaign and we especially liked the fun and quirky approach to educating us about the group's high quality meetings and conference facilities. It's great to see a fresh and energetic style and it certainly won't be forgotten in a hurry."

Macdonald Hotels & Resorts also offers an all-inclusive Meeting@ delegate package, available at over 40 locations in the UK with a wide range of high quality meeting spaces for up to 1000 delegates.
