The Borders Children's Charity (BCC), dedicated to alleviating hardship suffered by children in the Borders has received over £2,000 from festive fundraising by the team at Macdonald Cardrona Hotel Golf & Spa by Peebles.

During December, the four-star hotel in the Borders, sold 2,443 raffle tickets (£1 each) to guests at its Christmas dinners and functions.  Prizes included dinner for two in the AA rosette Renwicks Restaurant and short breaks at the hotel that, in mid-February, will complete a £200,000 stylish bedroom refurbishment.

As a charity comprised entirely of volunteers, 99% of any funds received by BCC is spent directly on children (0-18 years old) identified in need by social workers, head teachers and health workers.  The charity helps those in chaotic, stressful and abusive circumstances to rebuild esteem and self-confidence by enabling opportunities for the children to take part in activities, school trips and sports.  It also provides beds, bedding, specialist equipment, clothing and footwear.

Sonya Edwardson, the Peebles based Chair of BCC, commented:  "We are a small, local charity helping children throughout the Borders and have been overwhelmed with the generosity shown to the charity by Stuart and his team at Macdonald Cardrona Hotel.  This cheque is just wonderful.

"With applications for support from Borders Children's Charity rising every month, it is imperative that we keep on top of our fundraising.  This donation from Macdonald Cardrona Hotel will help considerably in our ongoing push to help children in great need."

Stuart Maxwell, general manager of Macdonald Cardrona Hotel Golf & Spa, commented: "Borders Children's Charity undertakes fantastic work in the community and I am very proud of the hard work of our staff and the generosity of our guests over the festive season in helping to raise £2443 for the BCC."
