Team members at Macdonald Hotels & Resorts, 2013-2014 AA Hotel Group of the Year have been recognised as rising stars within the hospitality industry at the Hospitality Industry Trust (HIT) Emerging Talent Conference held in Glasgow earlier this month.

Seven staff members were among the 150 Scotland-wide recipients of a prestigious HIT Scotland Emerging Talent Scholarship given to individuals who show the potential to become future leaders of the industry.

The winners represented three hotels within the group; Macdonald Cardrona Hotel Golf & Spa in the Scottish Borders; Macdonald Holyrood Hotel in Edinburgh and Macdonald Forest Hills Hotel & Spa by Aberfoyle in The Trossachs National Park.

Three of the scholarship recipients will now benefit from further intensive hospitality training at the prestigious Lausanne Hotel School in Switzerland while others can look forward to an 'advanced revenue' or 'executive leadership' training course to further their skills and career development.

Helen Anderson, Operations Manager, Macdonald Forest Hills Hotel & Spa is one of the lucky recipients of a week-long Lausanne Management course at the world-renowned Lausanne Hotel School in Switzerland.  The 28 year old from Edinburgh has been with the group for 11 years and in her current position for nine months at the 4-star Stirlingshire resort that completed a £1million refurbishment of 17 luxurious bedrooms, its restaurant facilities and public areas.

Helen commented: "As a previous recipient of the scholarship, Morag Stark, our resort general manager encouraged me to apply for the HIT Scotland award and I was thrilled to be sucessfully selected (with colleague Gemma Coll).  It will be a fantastic opportunity to learn and develop my leadership skills in an envionment where I will interact with many fellow hospitality professionals and then return equipped with the chance to implement further examples of best practice.  It promises to be a highly rewarding experience."

Ruaridh Macdonald, Operations Director at Macdonald Hotels & Resorts, commented: "I warmly congratulate all of the recipients of a prestigious HIT Scotland Emerging Talent Scholarship.  As AA Hotel Group of the Year, we place a great emphasis on providing our teams with the highest standards of training and opportunities for career development.

"In addition to our own internal training programmes, the HIT's scholarship is an excellent means for talented recipients to learn and build further on their skills.  It underlines our group-wide focus of ensuring we always give guests the highest standards of product and service."
