The champagne was flowing at The Macdonald Inchyra Hotel &
Spa by Polmont, Falkirk on 15 July when hotel staff helped Chris
and Colin Weir from Scotland celebrate winning a whopping
£161million in the National Lottery EuroMillion's draw.
Unsurprisingly, as Europe's biggest ever Lottery prize winners,
the excited couple from Largs in Ayrshire were definitely the
centre of attention at the packed press conference held in the
Bruce Suite when Lottery officials handed over the cheque for a
total of £161,653,000.
Former TV cameraman Colin (64) and his wife Chris (55), a
fully-trained psychiatric nurse described themselves as "tickled
pink" when they realised they had hit the jackpot by matching all
five main numbers 17, 19, 38, 42 and 45 and the Lucky Stars 9
and 10.
And while attentive Inchyra staff ensured the champagne flowed,
the couple revealed to the media they have already decided to
indulge their passion for travel and art - and to buy a new house
for both their son and daughter.
Following the press conference, Paul Bray, general manager of
The Macdonald Inchyra Hotel & Spa, commented: "It has been a
wonderful day for Europe's largest Lottery winners and all of the
staff at The Macdonald Inchyra Hotel & Spa have really enjoyed
helping the lucky couple relax and enjoy their win within the
comfort of the hotel."
