History of the Macdonald Linden Hall, Golf & Country Club, Northumberland
A Concise History by Christopher Baglee
The fascinating story of Linden Hall only began to unfold during research into the original drawings and basic history, to give background to its careful conversion and restoration in 1980.
Although only four families have owned Linden Hall, it is through the varying lifestyles of these families during the Hall's years as a private house, that we are able to get a glimpse of the role Linden Hall has played in Northumberland's rich history.
It is particularly satisfying that, by sympathetic conversion into a country hotel, Linden Hall will continue to function as a country house, not becoming a stagnant memorial to the grand Georgian era, nor deteriorating into an architectural ruin, but remaining a 'living' example of all that is best in classical design.
