Tour the Course - Macdonald Linden Hall Hotel, Golf & Country Club, Northumberland
1st Hole - Par 4 - 417 yards
Slightly uphill, normally into the prevailing wind. A good shot is required to a fairly generous fairway but danger awaits on either side, with woodland bordering the hole. A good tee shot should leave a mid to long iron to a well guarded green. A difficult opening hole, if you walk away with a par this will be a good result.
2nd Hole - Par 4 - 397 yards
An excellent par 4 once again normally into the breeze. A good drive is required to avoid the water on the left and a large bunker to the right. Having avoided these hazards you are left with a shot to an undulating elevated green with a long/medium iron.
3rd Hole - Par 5 - 584 yards
A long par 5 usually downwind. The drive needs to be threaded through bunkers left and right. The very long hitters will have a go in two, however the best option is to lay up on the left hand side of the fairway to leave a short iron to a generous green with fabulous views of the Northumberland coast.

4th Hole - Par 3 - 159 yards
A stunning par 3 all over water and surrounded by trees.Total commitment is needed with a mid iron for this picture postcard of a hole.
5th Hole - Par 4 - 423 yards
A slight dog-leg to the right from an elevated tee position. Care must be taken with the drive to avoid the water situated on the inside of the dog leg and bunkers to the left. Having mastered the tee shot a mid iron should suffice to a green protected by bunkers left and right. A visually attractive hole which is usually down breeze.
6th Hole - Par 4 - 440 yards
A fairly sharp dog leg protected by a stream running down the right hand side. The safe line is slightly left but this will lengthen the hole, and you have to be careful not to run out of fairway. Taking the tighter line will leave a mid iron to a fairly flat green which runs away down the left side.

7th Hole - Par 3 - 165 yards
Another lovely par 3 from an elevated tee position to a green protected by a lake on the left surrounded by trees. A short to mid iron should suffice, and there is a small amount of bail out area on the right, but not that much! Be brave and attack the green, the ball should stop from such an elevated position.
8th Hole - Par 4 - 289 yards
A short par 4 slightly uphill, and a good chance for a birdie. The big hitters have a chance to reach this one, otherwise a drive that avoids bunkers left and right will leave a short iron or pitch to a large green.
9th Hole - Par 5 - 516 yards
A par 5 back towards the Hall, normally back into the prevailing wind. Bunkers left and right must be avoided from the elevated tee. The longer hitters will have a go in two. Best option is to leave a pitch to a very big green, which sits slightly above you.

10th Hole - Par 4 - 411 yards
Slightly uphill, this par 4 dog leg's right, with out of bounds right and bunkers situated left and right on the dog leg. Two good shots required, with the second shot normally a long iron or fairway wood to a superbly contoured green nestled in the trees.
11th Hole - Par 4 - 398 yards
A par 4 into the prevailing wind with out of bounds to the right. A good straight drive is required here to a fairway protected left and right by bunkers. The second shot is normally a long iron or thereabouts to a large green that slopes towards you. A very good par 4.
12th Hole - Par 4 - 388 yards
Normally down breeze, beware of the hidden bunkers left and right at driving distance. Once these hazards are avoided a mid to short iron will be left to a well protected green that runs away from you.

13th Hole - Par 5 - 556 yards
A real 3 shotter, the drive needs to be threaded through two bunkers at driving distance. The next need to be placed through the oaks to the left side of the fairway. This will still leave a short iron to a green with water protecting it on three sides. Care is required on this hole and a par will be very pleasing.
14th Hole - Par 4 - 395 yards
A slight dog leg to the right, this requires a drive avoiding the bunkers left and right on the dog leg. The second shot is usually a long to mid iron to an elevated long thin green, situated through an avenue of trees.
15th Hole - Par 3 - 173 yards
Yet another picture postcard par 3 set in an ampitheatre of trees. A good mid iron is required to a fairly generous green. Beware of the pond that has to be carried from the tee.

16th Hole - Par 5 - 530 yards
A par 5 that generally plays down breeze. Open your shoulders from the tee as the fairway is the most generous on the course. Longer hitters will get there in two, however the green is well protected by bunkers and sits above you.
17th Hole - Par 3 - 176 yards
A good par 3 over a stream and also protected on the left and behind by water. Usually demands a good long iron into the prevailing breeze to a large green that slopes towards you.
18th Hole - Par 4 - 429 yards
A really tough finishing hole. There is no bail out here! The right hand side is bordered by a lake and the left by bushes and gorse. A dog left right, the drive must reach the corner of the dog leg or you will not be able to see the green. Once you have mastered the drive it will leave a mid to long iron through the large trees to a well contoured green right infront of the Hall.
