History of the Macdonald Hill Valley Hotel Golf and Spa, Cheshire Borders
Starting in 1975...
A little vision goes a long way. When Albert Minshall first teamed up with golfing greats Peter Alliss and David Thomas in the early 1970's to create Hill Valley Golf Course, he had no idea just what he was starting.
The club opened in 1975 and has been voted among the top ten courses in the country ever since. In the intervening years, a second course and many more superb facilities have been added making this idyllic corner of the Cheshire Borders countryside a favourite destination for golfers from all over the UK and beyond.
30 Years Later ...
In 2003 Albert Minshall, Chairman and founder of Hill Valley went into partnership with Macdonald Hotels, who were able to bring their expertise in hotels, food and beverage and leisure to an already great golf resort. A £10 million investment has enabled the club to grow into a new era, and recently the new four star Macdonald Hill Valley Hotel Golf and spa opened its doors on the site of the first clubhouse.
Ninety beautifully appointed bedrooms now provide relaxing retreats at the end of a long hard day. The new restaurant adds delicious cuisine in elegant surroundings, whilst the sports bar and peaceful lounge bar areas offer warm and inviting places to relax.
And Today?
The investment continues with a brand new conference suite seating up to 300 people, which for the first time enables Macdonald Hill Valley to offer 'Big Event' capability. The 'Vital' leisure club, which opened in January 2008 is the ideal place to relax tired limbs, rebuild your strength and revitalise your health.
Catering equally for the corporate client staging a major conference, society golfer seeking a tough challenge, or the couple in search of a quiet weekend break, Macdonald Hill Valley has evolved into much more than just a great golf resort; it has become a perfect destination whatever the occasion.
