A backdrop of beautiful Borders hills skirted by the famous River Tweed has created a very unique setting for the Cardrona championship golf course. Designed by former Ryder Cup player Dave Thomas in 2001, the Par 72 parkland and woodland course nestles into the surrounding countryside. Wide undulating USGA greens and a distance of over 7000 yards from the medal tees make Cardrona a truly enjoyable challenge for golfers at every level.
The golf course has matured quickly and has already hosted the 2004 and 2007 Euro Pro Tour and the 2007 European Challenge Tour, returning once again in 2008, attracting golfers from all over the world to compete at Cardrona.
At the Macdonald Cardrona Hotel, Golf and Country Club, we also recognise the environmental significance of our surroundings and have taken steps to protect our wildlife. As a result we have been awarded the Scottish Award for Environmental Excellence in Golf.

The Course
The championship golf course at Cardrona has been created to provide players with what can only be described as one of the most dramatic and naturally inspiring settings in which to play a round of golf in Scotland.
World-renowned course architect Dave Thomas designed the golf course to ensure it represents a challenging test of golfing skill for the expert golfer, yet remains an enjoyable course for the recreational player.
Playability for golfers of all levels is achieved through a wide choice of tee options, with the course measuring 7010 yards from the championship tees, 6555 yards from the boxes and 6139 yards from the front markers.
Dramatic and breathtaking views of the Scottish Border hills dominate every hole, while an abundance of wildlife and the generous fairways all lull you into a false sense of security. However, beware the famous River Tweed, as it meanders its way through the course, lying in wait for your golf ball on the 3rd, 8th, 12th and 18th hole.
Golf in Scotland has never been so exciting and Cardrona golf course's reputation has been further enhanced as the venue for professional tournaments. It has played host to the European Challenge Tour, EuroPro Tour, Tartan Tour and the Scottish Boys National Championship.

For pre or post round refreshments Spikes Bar is the ideal location. Situated close to the first tee, practise facilities and Pro Shop, Spikes Bar serves hearty golfers fare and provides a real clubhouse ambiance.
