In the picturesque town of Woodstock, the gateway of the Cotswolds, is to be found the charming Bear Hotel. The Bear Hotel at Woodstock is one of the original coaching inns of old England. Woodstock claims fame as being the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill, who was born at Blenheim Palace on the 30th November 1874. The Bear is a favourite haunt for romantic couples especially since it became a hideaway for Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor at the height of their love affair. With its ivy clad façade, oak beams, open fire places and stony walls, it exudes warmth and cosiness, perfect if you want a retreat with old fashioned hospitality. Extensively refurbished throughout, the hotel now boasts a modern yet traditional environment.
The Bear is ideally suited to exclusive use weddings. On your wedding day, we can give you the exclusivity of the hotel from check-in at 3.00pm until check-out the following morning (subject to minimum room bookings). Once your last guests have arrived, we will close the front door, allowing you to enjoy the atmosphere of a private house party, with the advantage of our professional and friendly team.
The Bear Hotel has 54 fully refurbished rooms, including 7 suites and 9 four posters rooms. For that special wedding night, we provide the bride and groom with complimentary upgrades to one of our Four Poster rooms or Execuitve Suites.
Please note that The Bear Hotel does not hold a licence to conduct civil ceremonies. However, the grand Town Hall ideally located across the road from the hotel conducts civil ceremonies and the church, adjacent to the hotel will bless the marriage before returning to The Bear to start the celebrations.
